Scope of Project:
Restoration of front façade of Putney Library

Albion Stone entered into discussions with The London Borough of Wandsworth’s Design Department with regard to the restoration of the front facade of Putney Library in Portland Stone.

The existing stone on the library was studied and found to be a Portland Whitbed. After reviewing the Portland Stone beds available Bowers Whitbed was found to have similar characteristics and was therefore selected for the project.

Albion Stone manufactured cills, copings, columns and various cladding elements.

The existing Portland Stone on the building was professionally cleaned once the fixing of the new Bowers Whitbed was completed, to ensure that the restored areas blended into the original stone elements.

The project was completed in the Spring of 1997.
