A new Seaside Garden at Flaghead Chine, Poole was unveiled on Wednesday 11th July, featuring a trio of Portland Stone sea shells supplied by Albion Stone.
Four large beach huts and a stunning trio of Portland Stone shell sculptures by Phil Bews and Diane Govin are the focal point of the new Garden.
The garden offers younger visitors the opportunity for sensory & quiet play, and creates an inspirational meeting point.
Sculptor Phil Bews created small scale models of a trio of shells, which were then realised in the impressive large scale shells we see at Flaghead Chine by Albion Stone Plc Portland, then hand finished by Mr Bews. The bespoke Portland Stone ‘shells’ feature a Whelk, Ammonite & Sea Urchin in Jordans Whitbed.
The works are part of a £6.6m investment in Poole’s seafront, which was partly funded by a grant from the government’s Coastal Communities Fund and partner organisations, and co-ordinated by Dorset Coast Forum.
