Scope of Project:
Ornate stonework and masonry for the memorial
Albion Stone worked with the HMS Illustrious Association to create the now completed new Memorial stone which marked the 62nd anniversary of the tragedy which occurred on Sunday 17th October 1948. The stone has been placed to overlook Portland Harbour where the tragedy happened.
Albion Stone were guests at the Dedication Service conducted by The Chaplain of the Fleet, the Venerable John Green CB QHC, and the unveiling was carried out by Admiral Stanhope in front of over 120 members of HMS Illustrious Association, including survivors of the tragedy and relatives of those who died.
