Heritage Portland Stone®
Our Heritage Portland Stone® range panel is complete and alongside the rest of our Portland Stone range at our factory on Portland.
The Heritage Portland Stone® contains the full range of geological features that are typically found within the Portland Whitbed seam. In more recent years, some architects have demanded tighter, appearance-based stone selection that sometimes witnesses perfectly good building material being rejected, simply because it does not meet with the selector’s desired aesthetics. This trend increases wastage and by default, it also increases the finished product’s carbon footprint.
Stone used in older buildings were not subject to this ‘unnatural’ selection process and consequentially, all the stone recovered from the Portland Whitbed seam was used. Our, aptly named Heritage Portland Stone® simply replicates this historical use of Portland Stone, and so it represents the stone on all Portland Stone buildings in London built before 1970.
Choosing this Heritage Portland Stone® means you are choosing the most environmentally sensitive stone currently on the UK market.
As this bed of Portland Stone has no selection, this enables us to use much more of the block and therefore we can supply much larger sizes. This in turn makes our Heritage Portland Stone® the ideal choice for load bearing projects.
