Jordans Whitbed
Scope of Project:
5th floor roof extension
This conversion of this 1950s office block into a contemporary boutique hotel, which is almost undetectable from street level is a remarkable.
Although unlisted, the building is in a highly sensitive heritage zone, a stones throw from Trafalgar Square. The existing building façade remains the same, untouched Portland stone on the lower four floors, whilst the new fifth storey roof extension clad with just under 1000 m2 of Jordans Whitbed, Portland stone ensured the new floor extension fits seamlessly on top of the existing structure.
The new upper floor houses a chic restaurant, bar and terrace with panoramic views across the city and Trafalgar Square and was designed to be deliberately set back from the buildings main façade, reducing visibility from the street and preserving sightlines across Trafalgar square and the Edith Cavell Memoria.
