Scope of Project:
New memorial wall
Clr Peter MacDonald campaigned for 12 years to get a memorial wall to commemorate the ‘missing names’ from the existing Liberty memorial. He contacted Albion Stone early in the design process and we were honoured to help with the project.
All stones and lettering was completed using the Zeda profiling saw at our Portland Factory. The wall was fixed by Albion’s sister company, Albion Stone Restoration with the Director, Danny Hilton taking personal charge of the project.
Crowds turned out to see the rededication of the cleaned existing cenotaph and the dedication for the new gleaming Portland Stone memorial wall. The dedication ceremony coincided with the 100th anniversary of the original memorial.
Between the cenotaph and the new memorial wall, a total of 1,335 lives lost from the Isle of Sheppey during two World Wars and other conflicts, are commemorated, with 988 inscribed on the new 10m long and 2m high wall.
Albion Stone, a fourth generation family business pride ourselves on having a helpful and skilled workforce as well as modern and traditional manufacturing process to enable us to produce the highest quality Portland Stone with minimal environmental impact.
