Scope of Project:
A new statue of Lady Astor
On 28th November 2019 a statue of Lady Astor was unveiled by Theresa May, commemorating 100 years since Lady Astor became the first female MP. She was the first woman to take her seat amongst an all male assembly recognising the start of a major change in the equality of British governance.
Hayley Gibbs designed and created the Nancy Astor statue in just nine months.
Hayley visited the Mine & Factory as she was unsure on what material she wanted to use as the site is exposed. The team went through the design and gave her various options.
She decided to use Jordans Basebed for the base and plinth. Lettering was carved into the base.
