Heritage Portland Stone Bricks
Scope of Project:
Garden landscaping and path
Nestled in a quiet East Sussex market town, this charming cottage features our Portland Stone Heritage Bricks to provide the finishing touch to this garden renovation project.
Using 30m2, which equates to roughly 2,000 Portland Heritage Stone bricks to create a bespoke wrap around path across two elevations. Rather than building a traditional wall, the bricks were utilised to create block paving, laid in a classic running bond pattern. The design is elegant and inviting, with the side path measuring 10 bricks wide extending to 11 at the front of the cottage, creating a welcoming entrance. The path finishes where it meets the newly laid garden patio to the side of the cottage. The bricks were used to bed in the patio by edging the slabs at varying courses, formalising the patio from the grassed lawn.
A key advantage during this project was how extremely easy the Heritage Portland Stone Bricks were to lay. Their tight tolerances meant each brick aligned with precision, requiring minimal adjustment on site. As a result, the installation team were able to start and finish the path in no time, ensuring an efficient build without compromising on quality.
The finished effect is perfect; the stone bricks work harmoniously with the gravel driveway and white cottage palette, beautifully integrating the cottage into its surroundings.
When using our Heritage Portland Stone Bricks, remember that Mother Nature has been designing our bricks for over 140 million years. Each one is unique and tells the story of life at the bottom of a rich tropical Jurassic Sea. They are also one of the lowest carbon building materials in the world.
