Construction began in October 2021 on this £200 million, 28,000 m2 mixed use development, reimagining an entire city block
between Baker, Gloucester, Blandford & Geroge Streets in Marylebone.
Creating a new open air courtyard filled with 2,600 m2 retail and dining space, that connects Baker Street with Gloucester Place. There is 20,252 m2 of Grade A, BREEAM Outstanding, Platinum SmartScore certification, net-zero carbon office space. Completing the development are 41 private residential apartments and 10 affordable homes surrounding the Loxton Walk courtyard, delivering a truly magnificent mixed-use environment.
Nearly 3,000 m2 of rusticated and plain ashlar Portland Fancy beach Whitbed was used to clad the building. With the largest panel sizes at over 2m in length, and an average stone length of 1.4m. Weighing over 300 tonnes, they were carefully transported from our mine in Portland to Laing O’Roukes CEMC site in Nottinghamshire, to make the pre-fabricated stone panels ready for installation on site.
Whilst around 2,800 m2 of Portland Grove Whitbed was used internally for the wall cladding and flooring in the main office entrance, lift lobbies, restrooms and corridors over the 10 storeys.
We worked closely with the teams involved in this vast project, including test samples, site visits and a timelapse video detailing the journey of the stone from our Mine in Portland through the prefabrication process and then onto installation.
